Husbandry 101: Reptiles

Always dreamed that one day you would be able to adopt a reptile but not sure where to start? Start with us! Meet one of our resident herpetologists (fancy way of saying reptile expert) and learn the basics of caring for our different reptile friends! With us, you will learn things like how your reptile habitat should be set up to what to have on hand if the power goes out and so much more! (This program does not include behind the scenes components).

Date:  

  • Saturday, April 12th 2 PM-3 PM 

Age: minimum age 7-15 and under must be accompanied by an adult, 16-18 does not need to be accompanied by an adult but must be dropped off and picked up, cannot walk the zoo alone. 18+ open.  

Price:

  • 17+: $36 for non-members; $31 for members
  • Ages 7-16 accompanying an adult: $16 for non-members; $11 for members

Refund Policy: You may receive a refund up to two weeks prior to your program. No refunds will be given after that point.

 

FAQ: 

Will we be able to touch an animal? We will not be able to touch an animal, but you will be able to tour the zoo before and after the program.  

Is this program wheelchair accessible? Yes! This program is completely wheelchair accessible.  

Why does my 16-year-old need to be picked up and dropped off at the education center? To keep visitors and program participants as safe as possible, the zoo does not allow unaccompanied minors to walk around the zoo without a trusted adult. Anyone under the age of 18 will need a trusted adult to accompany them on zoo grounds and pay admission to enter zoo grounds unless they are a zoo member.  

Is admission included? Admission is included for anyone registered for Husbandry 101 Reptiles.  

Can we tour the zoo before and after the class? YES! If you are registered, you can let our Visitor Services representative know that you are here for the reptile class and they will let you tour the zoo. If you are not registered or dropping off a registered member of the class that is 16-18 years old, you will need to pay admission to the zoo unless you are a zoo member.  

How long is Husbandry 101? Husbandry 101: Reptiles will be one hour in length. You will go home with resources to help be better informed for caring for your own reptile and where to obtain materials to help care for your reptile including helpful hints and tricks!  

We will be able to purchase a reptile at the zoo? No, you will not be able to purchase or adopt a reptile at the zoo.  

Can I bring my reptile to class to help me learn more about how to care for them? No, you cannot bring your reptile to class. Animals that are listed as a service animal are allowed on zoo grounds. All other animals are not permitted to enter zoo grounds. If you have a reptile, please bring some questions to ask our animal expert.   

I snack! Can I bring a snack to class? Yes! Please feel free to bring a water bottle and snacks to class.
